Hagiography Art
The artION space was created to communicate the art of Byzantine Hagiography with anyone who wishes to have such a work of art in their space, either to feel the concept of the Divine near them, or to beautify their gaze through this art.
My images are unique, painted from start to finish by hand, without the use of machines.
The images I create are copies of Byzantine images and are made on wood, on which the painted surface, the appropriate substrate has been created, so that it can accept the colors.
To create the images, you can choose between different types of wood, such as marine plywood, poplar, beech, oak, etc.
Indicatively, the dimensions of the wood (straight wood or carved wood), on which I work my images, start with the smallest dimension which is 20X25cm, with various intermediate dimensions, and reaches the largest dimension which is 50X70cm. (click here).
The preparation of the substrate of the images is done with the traditional technique of the mixture of chalk dust or putty or marble dust and animal glue and the use of textile reinforcement.
For the background of the image, either plain color or gold, platinum, silver or copper leaf (real or fake) can be used.
The painting of the icons is done with the also traditional technique of mixing egg yolk and powder colors.
Each of my images is a unique work, with a distinctive personal style, line and touch, and it will be very difficult to create the next one identical to the previous one.
The back of the image is always hand-signed by me, as a sign of hand-craftedness and uniqueness.
